What the scholarship covers

Bachelor's track also includes 1 year of mandatory Korean-language training before the 4-6 year degree programme begins.

What you need

  • Online submission via studyinkorea.go.kr
  • Structure: Embassy Track (via the home country's Korean embassy, which forwards nominees to NIIED) and University Track (direct application to a designated Korean university).

Deadlines

  • 15 Sept 2026 2027 GKS-U (undergraduate) online submissionPassed. Expect a similar date next cycle.ALREADY CLOSED as of this research (2026-10-08): the window ran 15 Sept 2026 11:00 KST to 30 Sept 2026 18:00 KST, confirmed across multiple embassy notices and NIIED's own 2027 GKS-U notice (posted 9 Sept 2026). This is 8 days before 'today' -- do not pitch GKS-U for autumn 2027 entry.
  • Date not published GKS-Graduate (GKS-G) deadline patternCross-confirmed as 'February' on both SNU's and KAIST's own GKS pages, but no exact date published for the 2027-28 academic year cycle.

Visa

South Korea D-2/D-4 Student visa.

Things to know

UNCONFIRMED. Each Korean embassy's GKS-U notice applies only to its own jurisdiction and sets its own country-specific quota (confirmed structurally via another country's embassy notice, which explicitly restricted eligibility to that country's own nationals) -- Mongolia's own quota/eligibility must come from the Korean Embassy in Mongolia's own notice, which direct URL guesses could not locate, and the generic NIIED notice routes country-specific detail into JS-triggered attachment downloads this session's tools could not open.

TIME-CRITICAL, same category as Chevening: the 2027 GKS-U (bachelor's) deadline already passed on 30 Sept 2026. A Mongolian student aiming for GKS-funded undergraduate study should now target the 2028 GKS-U cycle (apply ~Sept 2027) and, in the meantime, check the Korean Embassy in Mongolia's own notice directly for Mongolia's specific quota, since this research could not retrieve it. GKS-Graduate (master's) still has a February window that is not yet closed for a 2027 start -- that remains live, subject to each university's own linked deadline.
