Japan's MEXT scholarship fully funds study at UTokyo, but the 'University Recommendation' route documented on UTokyo's own site is restricted to students already in a UTokyo exchange/internship relationship, and whether Mongolia currently has an active 'Embassy Recommendation' slot for UTokyo could not be confirmed because the Japanese Embassy in Mongolia's own page blocked every fetch attempt.

  • JLPTThe University-Recommendation (GSFS exchange) route requires JLPT N2 / CEFR B2+ or prior Japanese/English-medium schooling; EJU requirement for the general Embassy Recommendation undergraduate track not confirmed from a UTokyo page.
  • For the University Recommendation route: must already be a UTokyo exchange student or have completed a UTokyo internship programme. For Embassy Recommendation: process and eligibility set by the Japanese embassy in the applicant's home country.

Things to know

UNCONFIRMED whether Mongolia currently has an active MEXT route INTO UTokyo specifically for autumn 2027. UTokyo's 'University Recommendation' page explicitly restricts that route to students with a prior UTokyo exchange-agreement or internship tie (e.g. UTSIP Kashiwa) -- not a general-admission channel for a new applicant with no prior UTokyo relationship. 'Embassy Recommendation' runs entirely through the home-country Japanese embassy and 'varies by country,' so UTokyo's own site cannot confirm Mongolia's status -- that requires the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia's own page, which returned HTTP 403 on every attempt this session (confirmed independently twice).

BLOCKED SOURCE: https://www.mn.emb-japan.go.jp (multiple URLs) returned HTTP 403 to automated fetches on repeated, independent attempts -- this is the one page that would answer whether Mongolia has an active 2027 route into UTokyo, and it must be opened by a person in an ordinary browser. Do not tell a family this route is open until that page is checked directly.
