Kyoto University's own page says Embassy Recommendation is 'most common for Kyoto University' and confirms an authentic autumn-entry pathway at graduate level, but Mongolia's current eligibility still depends on the Japanese Embassy in Mongolia's own notice, which this research could not open.

What you need

  • 'Most of those intending to enroll in undergraduate, master's, and professional degree programs must have sufficient proficiency in Japanese,' except specific English-taught programmes (e.g. the Faculty of Engineering international track). Standard undergraduate track requires the EJU exam; EJU requirement for graduate admission not confirmed.
  • Passing Certificate of the First Screening (from the embassy)
  • Provisional Acceptance Letter from a prospective advisor
  • Document evaluation
  • Undergraduate track: language prep -> EJU exam -> 'Selection by University' happens AFTER the exam -- the applicant does not pre-choose Kyoto the way a UCAS or Common App applicant would.
  • Graduate Embassy Recommendation explicitly supports an October/autumn start ('Periods in parenthesis are for applicants coming to Japan in October'), confirming autumn entry is real at graduate level, not April-only.

Things to know

UNCONFIRMED for Mongolia specifically -- Kyoto's page does not name eligible countries (Embassy Recommendation eligibility is set by each country's embassy, not by Kyoto). The Japanese Embassy in Mongolia's own page returned HTTP 403 on every attempt.

Same blocked-embassy-page caveat as the UTokyo entry applies here -- Mongolia's actual access to this route for 2027 needs a human to check mn.emb-japan.go.jp directly in a browser. The 2026-cycle deadline shown is NOT a 2027 deadline; re-check closer to the 2027 cycle.
